Social Media is a Hate Haven for those with Mental Illness

The launch of social media was “supposed” to be a good thing, bringing communities and old friends and family together, and acting as a center source for so many that needed information and even assistance. However, like many things that being with well intentions, it quickly also took on a darker side. While it may have begun to show its ugly head earlier, I first began to see the appearance of those that were very apparently “not well” when the 2016 Presidential election campaign began.

As a liberal, activist, and a Democrat, I have followed and been involved with politics on and off for a majority of my life. We have seen conservative administrations come and go, and there is usually a sense of checks and balances as one group leaves and liberals enter to try to establish more equitable solutions. However, as everyone is painfully aware, the 2016 campaign brought out a whole new genre of people, many of whom demonstrated blatant mental health problems.

I first began to see those with obvious mental illnesses in the BernieBros, bots, and crats. We had a number of open pages that welcomed all and quickly had to close them due to non-stop attacks from the Bernie Sanders supporters.
